Who We Are
Founded in Phoenix, Arizona, Sonoran Repertory Theatre was created to establish something long missing from the Downtown arts landscape: a dedicated home for classical theatre.
We bring timeless stories to life through bold, contemporary interpretations that speak directly to our world today—work that is immediate, relevant, and alive for modern audiences.
We are committed to accessibility, inclusion, and artistic excellence, creating productions that entertain, challenge, and connect our community through the power of great storytelling.
What We Do
Our work centers on an annual season of fully staged productions drawn from the classical canon—from Shakespeare and Molière to Greek tragedy and beyond.
But we don’t present these works as museum pieces. Each production is reimagined through a modern lens—grounded in strong storytelling, dynamic staging, and a clear point of view—so that every audience can see themselves reflected in the work on stage.
Beyond the mainstage, Sonoran Repertory Theatre engages schools and communities across Arizona through touring productions, workshops, and educational programs that introduce new generations to classical theatre in ways that are accessible, engaging, and relevant.
Why It Matters
Phoenix is one of the largest cities in the United States—yet it has lacked a consistent, downtown-based home for classical theatre. Sonoran Repertory Theatre exists to change that.
We believe these stories endure because they speak to fundamental human experiences—and that they belong to everyone. Through Pay-What-You-Can performances, affordable ticketing, and outreach programs for students and veterans, we are committed to ensuring that cost is never a barrier to experiencing great art.

Wes Martin
Executive Director, Sonoran Repertory Theatre
Director. Producer. Founder of a new home for classical theatre in Phoenix.
Wes Martin is a Phoenix-based theatre artist, director, and producer with more than 30 years of experience in performance and arts leadership.
Wes previously co-founded and served as Executive Producer of The Shakespeare Theatre in Phoenix, helping to establish one of the only classical theatre companies to operate in the downtown arts district. He later Co-founded Off Center Productions, continuing his work developing innovative and accessible theatre.
As a director and adaptor, his work focuses on reimagining classical texts for modern audiences, blending strong storytelling with contemporary staging and design.
He has also appeared in numerous productions at Arizona Theatre Company, Phoenix Theatre Company, Arizona Broadway Theatre, with credits spanning musical theatre, drama and comedy.
Through Sonoran Repertory Theatre, Wes is committed to building a lasting, accessible home for classical theatre and original works in the Sonoran Desert.
